THE SYSTEM OF NON-APPARATUS MEMBRANE PLASMAPHERESIS UBM-01-"PF SPb" A number of different methods of plasmapheresis are used currently in clinical practice. Most of them, however, require centrifuges or other stationary apparatus. Nevertheless, some therapeutic and prophylactic institutions do not have such devices - in hard-to-reach territories without electricity facilities, for example.
Only after organization of the industrial production of the first domestic membrane plasma filtrers PFM-800 and development of the technique of non-apparatus membrane plasmapheresis UBM-01-"PF SPb" (the developer and the manufacturer JSC "Plasmofilter", St. Petersburg, patent No. 2113240 dated 05.05.95) procedures of membrane plasmapheresis have became accessible for serial medical institutions, including regional hospitals, medical maternity units, etc. The arrangement of elements of non-apparatus membrane plasmapheresis UBM-01 "PF SPb" on the infusion stand. The method of non-apparatus membrane plasmapheresis device using UBM-01-"PF SPb" is based on the siphon blood sampling, bypassing a plasma filter, into polymer container with the anticoagulant solution similar to the blood donor procedures of blood banking (the phase of blood sampling). After filling the container with the blood, it is moved to the top position and the blood return phase starts. Blood flows, under the gravity force, back into the same vein, passing through the plasma filter. Plasma output from plasma filter amounts approximately 1/3 of the volume of flowing blood. When container is empty, it is moved down again, the required volume of the anticoagulant is admixed and the next cycle of blood withdrawal begins. Saline or other plasma expanders are added to the working container as required. Recommended transmembrane pressure in plasma filter is about 130-150 mm Hg. It consists of a positive pressure in the blood chambers, 70-80 mm Hg created by lifting the blood container at 1 m above the level of plasma filter (h1), and of a negative pressure in plasma chambers. Putting down the plasma container below 1 m of the plasma filter (h2), one can create a negative pressure in plasma chambers about 70-80 mm Hg. Scheme of the extracorporeal circuit
